This clay is often selected for the production of bowls and mugs as part of the clay wall can be exposed and not fully covered with glaze to take advantage of the rich natural colour of this clay body. The natural colour of this clay takes the bright underglaze and glaze colours to a much more subtle colour result. The Red Ochre is a rich natural red/brown firing clay in Oxidation in the electric kiln. Texture is 50 mesh. Not recommended for reduction in a gas kiln. Strong dark coloured glaze response 1200℃. Suitable as a mid fire clay. Recommended bisque 1050℃ and glaze 1220-1260℃. Shrinkage rate Bisque 7%. Earthenware 8 %. Midfire 10%.
