Pyrometric cones are used to monitor ceramic firings in kilns where the consistent temperature is important to the quality of the final product being fired. Pyrometric cones measure heat-work, the effect of time and temperature. Pyrometric cones will be the first indicator that, over time, firing changes are taking place within your kiln. When trouble shooting a varied result, the first place we look is the cone within the kiln.
